We are living in the material world, rather than in our real home in the spiritual world. This world is impermanent and troublesome to material bodies, which are subject to birth, death, old age, and disease, as well as all the related anxieties. But we are not these material bodies; rather we are eternal, spiritual souls. When we misidentify with our external, physical coverings, we suffer. But as we learn to identify with our real nature, subordinate parts and parcels of God, and act in that understanding, we transcend the anxieties of life. Sufferings in this world serve two purposes. They are the natural and automatic consequence of our past-life actions, and they remind us that this is not our real home, thus being an impetus for turning toward God. == ==
