Tesla's design varied from that of Faraday in two major ways. First, he used a magnet that was bigger in diameter than the disk so that the magnet completely covered the disk. Second, he divided the disk into sections with spiral curves radiating out from the center to the outside edge. Edison had nothing to do with this invention and in the other side of the coin, Frank Julian Sprague improved designs for a spring-loaded trolley pole.
Edison
The name of Edison's main rival was Nikola Tesla.
He worked for edison.
Two words, Nikola Tesla
His first job in the industry was as an electrical engineer at a telephone company in Budapest, Hungary in 1881. One day as he was walking through the park, he had a vision of a rotating magnetic field. He sketched a drawing of an induction motor on the ground, which was his first great idea.
The ruthless Thomas Alva Edison
Nikola Tesla
The most know person was Edison.
Nikola Tesla worked for Edison making the Edison Direct currrent machine workable because Edison and his scientists could not make it work properly. Edison was not good to his word and negleted the promise money he offered. Nikola parted his way and now we have his inventions.
Nikola Tesla was referred to Edison by a mutual friend. Tesla emigrated to New York and gave a recommendation letter to Edison who hired him to help develop DC power systems. Their partnership did not last long. Instead of working on DC power as Edison challenged him, Tesla chose to improve Faraday's AC power. Edison would not listen to Tesla's arguments for AC power, and Tesla quit. George Westinghouse then bought Tesla's AC patents, and directly challenged Edison in the current wars which Westinhouse eventually won. Ironically, many devices used today are DC (computers, cell phones, LED lights, etc.) as Edison predicted, and converters have to be used to step down from AC back to DC.
Nikola Tesla was never in sports.
Edison was the rival. Tesla won the current war.
