Tickets for Underground, buses, the Dockland Light Railways and other forms of mass transit in London can be bought at machines in any Underground station, at certain bus stops, London Overground stations, most National Rail stations and the London airports, as well as, using cash, on board most London buses.
Beyond this, London has, more and more, moved toward a 'smart' card called an Oyster card. This card can be purchased from any Oyster Ticket Shop, found in hundreds of shops, newsagents and off-licenses all over London.
Oyster cards can be either set up with a Pay-As-You-Go credit amount, or used in a Travelcard setting, where-in you set an amount of time, and a number of zones, and are then free to travel within this set limit.
Either type of usage is valid on all forms of mass transit in the Greater London area, and are notably cheaper than paying cash for your travels.
