there are plenty advantages of a motorway, such as:

  • getting somewhere fast
  • not being in heavy traffic
  • being able to go at high speeds- legally
  • there usually aren't bumps (pot holes etc)
  • and they also don't have very many bends/corners

there are also many other advantages- just think of them all! :)

Motorways are designed so that there is no turning or crossing traffic. All traffic joins or leaves on the left. (Right where traffic drives on the right) This alone improves the safety hugely. The road is built to a higher standard of alignment both horizontally and vertically. That is, no sharp bends or humps. Together, these allow higher speeds in greater safety than any other roads. Motorways therefore, have much higher capacity than normal roads making 'traffic jams' very rare.
