Stoke-on-Trent Community Transport also known as Communibus is a Registered Charity founded in 1975 providing Dial a Ride and Group Hire services for individuals with special transport needs and for community groups. Transport is provided by vehicles adapted with tail lifts, low steps, seat belts and are able to carry passengers travelling in their wheelchairs. The service is provided by both paid and voluntary staff, the value of the Voluntary Input being put at £100,000 per year! The service was formerly grant aided by Staffordshire County. Grant Aid was provided by Stoke-on-Trent City Council from 1997 when the service came under their jurisdiction. Funding was reduced by £40,000 per year 1n 1999 by the City Council! In 2008 Funding by the City Council was totally withdrawn with only two weeks notice being given Staffordshire provides excellent plane, train, taxi and road network including a 100km biking trail system.
