A multi-lane highway is a road with several lanes for traffic. Our motorways usually have 3 lanes which tend to be called the "slow" the "middle" and the "fast" lane, but these names are incorrect, although the slower traffic should keep to the "left" lane, whilst the other two lanes are "overtaking" lanes to enable faster vehicles to get on their way. Some highways in North America have as many as 8 lanes. Not the sort of road to be dithering as to which lane you should be in. A difference with American super highways is that drivers can pass other vehicles on the right or the left side.

The lane lines will disappear AND/OR there will be a caution sign advising you to merge.
Outside of city limits, the left lane is a passing lane only.
When you identify that a roadway is narrowing from multilane to a single lane, you should reduce your speed and be prepared to merge. Use your mirrors and check your blind spots to ensure it's safe to change lanes. If necessary, yield to other vehicles already in the single lane, and proceed with caution. Always be aware of the traffic flow and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
When driving on a multilane road with two-way traffic, it's essential to stay in your designated lane and remain aware of vehicles approaching from the opposite direction. Always signal your intentions when changing lanes or turning. Maintain a safe following distance and be cautious of pedestrians and cyclists who may be crossing the road. Additionally, obey all traffic signs and signals to ensure safety for all road users.
