for one, workers had poor working conditions and little pay for the work they did. Sometimes, they ran into mountains, and the only way to build the railroad there was make the railroads explode with dynomite. Some of the workers got blown up while working with the dynomite. hard times, huh?

What were the hardships of building the American Transcontinental Railroad and how did the workers work though them?

Some of the hardships they faced were little food, they ate once during their working hours. They worked long hours for little money, and they ranged from 10yo and up. They were attacked by Indians and the mountain paths were treacherous, building bridges and tunnels through them were hazardous acts. They got through these problems with perseverance and hard work, they defended themselves against the Indians, they tied themselves up with rope whilst building bridges and were extra careful to watch for collapsing in the tunnels. and eventually, they successfully finished the Transcontinental Railroad. Hope this helped :)

How does the transcontinental railroad relate to the growth and development of the US?

Before the transcontinental railroad was built, Americans wanted to expand to the West Coast. However, settlers in the west were very isolatedand there was no form of transportation to get to them. Also, when the westerners grew a surplus of crops, they had no way of shipping them off to the eastern settlers. They also had no way of importing items from those in the East. The transcontinental railroad was the solution to these problems because it was a way to connect the east and west, and was a huge step in the development of the western US.
