Take the Downtown A-C-E (the blue line) from 42nd Street-Port Authority to West 4th Street.
Transfer at West 4th Street to the Downtown F train (of the B-D-F-M, the orange line) to 2nd Avenue-Houston Street. Then walk 4 blocks up 2nd Avenue to 4th Street. After Houston comes 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.
Tremont Street Subway was created in 1897.

The first phase of construction (96th Street to 63rd Street) on the T train, aka the Second Avenue Subway, is currently scheduled to be completed in 2016. Take the Downtown A or C trains (of the A-C-E, the blue line) from 42nd Street-Port Authority to Fulton Street.Coming from the A or C trains, you should exit the subway at Fulton Street and Nassau Street. Walk 2 blocks east on Fulton Street (in the opposite direction of traffic) to William Street. Turn right, and walk 3 blocks south on William Street to Maiden Lane. The address 1 Chase Manhattan Plaza should be on William Street between Maiden Lane and Liberty Street.
Second Avenue Subway was created in 2016.
Take the Uptown C or E trains (of the A-C-E, the blue line) one stop, from 42nd Street-Port Authority to 50th Street (at 8th Avenue).Or you could just walk. It's 8 blocks, which is less than half a mile.
