As of my last update in October 2023, a subway ticket for the A train, or any New York City subway line, costs $2.90 for a single ride. This fare applies regardless of the specific route, including trips from Manhattan to Brooklyn. Additionally, riders can use a MetroCard or OMNY for contactless payments.

I sure hope there's an available bathroom near the subway station! I'll need a ticket to ride the subway.
By far the cheapest way is the subway. Subway fare is $2.50 for a Single Ride Ticket (or $2.25 per ride for a pay-per-ride Metrocard, which has a $4.50 -- 2 ride -- minimum), plus $5 for the AirTrain shuttle.First you take the AirTrain from the JFK terminals to the Howard Beach station on the A train (of the A-C-E, the blue line). Take the Uptown A train into Manhattan.
Hotel chains have tourism displays that include free NYC Subway maps. A free NYC Subway map can also be obtained in any Subway or Ferry ticket booth.
Connection is available between the LIRR's Jamaica station and the Sutphin Boulevard-Archer Avenue station on the New York City subway system.Transfer to the subway system (you can buy a plastic Metrocard or a paper Single Ride Ticket at one of the electronic kiosks), and board the Manhattan-bound J-Z (the brown line). You will be boarding the J train, unless you're traveling between 7 and 8:15 AM. The Z train is a one-way rush hour express train; it runs to Manhattan from 7 to 8:15 AM and from Manhattan (to Queens and Brooklyn) from 4:55 to 5:45 PM.Take the J-Z from Sutphin Boulevard-Archer Avenue to Chambers Street. This station is really a block north of Chambers Street, on Centre Street at Reade Street. But it's connected to the Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall station on the 4-5-6 (the dark green line), which is at the corner of Centre and Chambers Streets. So depending on which exit you use, you'll exit the subway at Chambers Street or Reade Street. The Chambers Street/Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall station is 1 to 2 blocks up from the entrance to the Brooklyn Bridge. Walk 1 or 2 blocks down Centre Street (along the east side of City Hall Park). The entrance to the footpath (the Brooklyn Bridge Promenade) as well as the auto entrance, will be 1 block down from Chambers Street, across the street (across from City Hall Park).
A parking ticket in Brooklyn NY will typically cost the offender approximately $115.00. This fee does not include any late fees.

Yellow cabs charge a flat rate of $45 (NOT including tolls, tips and tax) for all trips between JFK and Manhattan. Car service companies will charge similar rates. By train, it will cost $7.50: $5 for the AirTrain shuttle from JFK to the Howard Beach subway station (on the A train, of the A-C-E, the blue line), and then $2.50 for a Single Ride subway ticket. The A train stops at 34th Street-Penn Station in Manhattan.
