When does the metro open?

I assume you're asking about Metrorail, not the bus service.

This is from the Metro website, www.wmata.com:

"Opens:

5 a.m. weekdays, 7 a.m. weekends

Closes*:

midnight Sunday-Thursday, 3 a.m. Friday-Saturday nights

*Please note that, for many stations, first trains leave later than system opening times and last trains leave earlier than closing times. When traveling near system opening and closing times, please check the first and last train departure times posted in the stations and indicated on the stations page. Holiday hours vary. See holiday schedule."

As noted above, if you think you may be at the edge of the operating hours, be sure to check the Metro website to determine the exact time that the first or last train will be leaving your station. It could be quite a bit different than the official hours!
