Why were trams made?

I think that they were made as a new form of public transportation, so that people hat a steady relyable form of transportation that wouldn't get stuck in traffic. Its also cheaper than a subway.

The first trains travelled inside mines, and then from mines to a dock where the coal or other material coould be loaded on barges. Much later, railroads were made to move people and cargo between major cities.

because they were energy efficient and didn't need to keep refueling and thereby much easier to run.

it made it so that it could keep going and making the journey much quicker for the passengers.
