A library is a wonderful place for an old fashioned look.
If your library is a traditional form, your book shelving can be done in a dark (cherry, mahogany, walnut) stain, the walls then will look good in one of the saturated colours (royal blue, oxblood red, hunter green or even mustard yellow).
If your library is more contemporary, the shelving can be done in a light wood (ash, maple, oak) or painted white then the walls will be better done in soft pastels (tan, celery, pale blue, peach, or soft yellow) a white, pale blue and tan combination can have a "cottage" or "beach" theme and still be a wonderful library.
