PlayStation 2 games do not have a single file format, unlike the .gba extension for GameBoy Advance games and the .gb extension for GameBoy (origional) games. The fact that they come on disks allows for them to be ripped as a single file and use the .iso format, but this is not the true game format. In PS2 games, the files with the majority of the code in have the .elf extension, but many file types are used, including the universal text file extension (.txt) and others. Some games have been designed with custom extensions. The .elf files (and other executable files) can be programmed to read any file extension so long as there is a method for decoding the file using the .elf's programming language. To find out more file types, just insert a PS2 disk into a computer and browse through the files that show up. I am afraid that this is all I can remember from my brief spell of writing (fairly) basic PS2 games. I sincerely help this information has helped, and I recommend that if you are trying to download PS2 games for free using the .iso format, DON'T!
