There is no way to be certain because age doesn't alter patriotism. John L. Burns at 70 years of age joined with the Union to defeat the Confederates at Gettysburg. He was a Veteran of the War of 1812. At Gettysburg he was credited with shooting a charging rebel officer off his horse, was wounded in the arm, leg and chest, crawled from the battlefield and went home for treatment. Lincoln met with the "Old Hero" when he dedicated the battlefield as the Soldiers National Cemetery.
