Monotheism is the most important teaching of Islam since start of mankind. All prophets; including Noah, Abraham, Ismael, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, ..., Jesus, and Muhammad; called to worship the one and only one God. The first Islam pillar, of the 5 Islam pillars, commands Muslim to believe in the oneness of God with no partners or resemblance.
Quran says (meaning English translation):
"say (O Muhammad): He is Allah, the one. Allah the Self-Sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need (He neither eats nor drinks). he begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none co-equal or comparable to him"

Muslims believe in Allah (God in English and same God for Christians and Jews) as the one and only one God with no partner, no son, no father, no companion, no associate, and no equivalence.

Muslims are THE monotheists. Islam is the ONLY religion that is COMPLETELY monotheistc.

Other religions say they believe in one god, but they impurify their so-called monotheism by praying to saints, to Jesus, or by thinking that whatever they do is ok with God (making themselves into a kind of 'god' along with God).

Only God is to be worshipped. No saint, no prophet, no stone or statue. Only God has power. People who pull off magic stunts - like Criss Devil, Mindfreak, are doing it through the help of demons. They have no power in themselves.

In Islam, if my own father tells me to worship anyone other than the One God, I must disobey him.

We say that God's Oneness (and Uniqueness) are divided into three categories.

1) We say He is the only one worthy of any act of worship.

2) We say that He is the only one who can determine what is right and wrong. (So if a Muslim religious leader tells me to go blow myself up and kill people, I can tell him to shove it, because God - the ONLY one who commands - has already told me that suicide and murder are forbidden.

3) We say that no one can have the "attributes" of God. IN other words, some guy comes along and says he knows the future, we tell him to buzz off. Only God knows the future. Some guy comes and says he can forgive sins (like Catholic priests) and we say only God can forgive sins.

Islam is the purest monotheism there is.
