In the formation phase- why not! the College of St. Elizabeth has a swimming pool intended for use by Women only- and there is an unusual granite wall that prevents any viewing of sisters and students in Bikinis or whatever! This is on the campus of the Motherhouse at Convent Station, N.J. Seminarians are active ( male) in all kinds of athletic games- such as Basketball- and brothers ( in a sense religious non-coms- often function as teachers, camp counsellors- and athletic- including swimming , instructors. Many a swim I had at the Camp St. Joseph"s Villa. If the bros do it- so do the Sisters- at the colleges. I don"t think an active nun would be permitted say- to swim competitively in the Olympics- there would be rights (and rites) in conflict there, but as physical exercise, swimming is more than tolerated. St. John, the Baptist, would concur- one must be born again- of Water.
