Both Jews and Jehovah's Witnesses were bitterly persecuted during the 2nd World War under Hitler's regime. The Jews because of their ethnicity and the Jehovah's Witnesses because they refused to cooperate with the Nazis.

The Jewish religion is based on the first covenant between God and humanity that stretches from the time of Abraham through the time of Moses, the development of the Jewish nation and the promise of the coming of the Messiah. Modern day Jews still await the Messiah as they do not recognise Jesus Christ as the Jewish Messiah.

Christians, on the other hand, see in Jesus Christ a new covenant between God and humanity, that supercedes the old one. and recognise in Jesus God made human as prophesised on the Old Testament (the Hebrew scriptures) and therefore recognise Jesus as God incarnate and the awaited Messiah, although Jesus fulfils a different role as Messiah than the Jews expected. They expected a warrior Messiah who would restore the Jewish people and save them from their enemies. However, in Jesus, we see, because of his divinity, the Saviour of all people who accept him as their Lord, past and future, rather than just the Jewish nation.

Jehovah's Witnesses, however, do not fit in with either group. They are certainly not Jews although they do follow some Jewish customs such as not eating meat that has not been well drained of blood. However, neither can they be called Christian in the true, Biblical sense, as they follow a discredited belief declared as a heresy even in the early Church where they refuse to accept Jesus as God incarnate and as Lord. So, while Jehovah's Witnesses are not Jewish, neither are they orthodox Christians either, but rather fall into their own category of a sect that declares themselves to be Christian but are not regarded as such by the Christian church because of their unorthodox beliefs, and are nearer to a sect, or even a cult, than a Christian denomination.
