Jadwiga saved Poland and Lithuania by marrying Jagiello, to stop the Teutonic Knights from raiding Poland. The Teutonic Knights were a crusading military order of Germany who were supposed to be Catholic, and were supposed to convert Lithuania, which was the only country left in Europe that was pagan. With Poland and Lithuania united, the two would be stronger, and there would be no excuses for Teutonic Knights to Christianize Lithuania. Jadwiga’s marriage with Jagiello brought Lithuania to Christianity. Jagiello was finally able to defeat the Teutonic Knights years later.

This coalition ultimately led to the weakening of the Teutonic Order's influence in Eastern Europe.
Their goal was to convert the lithuanian pagans to christianity.
