although you feel like you are being punished for anothers sins or actions you are not. the man who watches his son going to prison for a crime he commited feels agony over the loss of his son not being around he is not being sent to jail; his son is. The Bible makes many references to the fact that God would punish the descendants of a sinful father to the 3rd or 4th generations, He later said that a man would be liable for his own sins and not his descendants. you could answer this question both ways but the fact is the sinner or more likely the prisoner is being held accountable for his own actions

If I may suggest something a little different: When the subject of punishment comes up in reference to the Scriptures, people instantly assume that the punishment must be from God. In high school, someone asked me the trick question "If God can do anything, can He make a stone so heavy that even He cannot lift it?" More than twenty years later it occurred to me that God did exactly that when he gave humans the power of free will. The Bible says that the sins of the fathers will be visited on the children, but at no time does it say God wants it that way. I look at it as a warning by God of the punishment man brings on himself and his descendants, not as a threat of punishment by God. If necessary, I can cite many other examples of people crediting and / or blaming God for what I believe are probably man-made events. This contributor is a non-denominational Christian who has no problem in accepting that he is paying for his sins as well as the sins of his forebears, but I have known many other Christians who are most uncomfortable with this idea. They do not believe that God would allow it. I believe that God does allow it, but He also gives us warnings which we sometimes fail to heed. Bad things have happened to me, and I prefer to believe that some of them were caused by the transgressions of my ancestors, instead of something I could have avoided if I had acted differently. [Some of my actions now seem clearly wrong to me, and others I will never be sure about.] I cannot prove it, and I am not pushing it as fact, but it makes sense to me. I also have respect for the previous interpretation, but I predict that sooner or later someone will have no respect for mine and erase it.

Well this really isn't an improvemnt im just saying i would'NT erase it cause i believe its true :D i respect your beliefs and agree that no answer should be deleted whether right nor wrong, Jesus replaced most of the Old Testament views and rules when he read the scripture in the temple from isiah and when he rolled rolled it up He said today this has been forfilled in your presence

Jesus's death saves us only from spiritual sins and he has redeemed us only from eternal damnation (hell).
