Yes, because you are not forgiven at the moment you ask forgiveness. You were already forgiven at the time that he died on the cross for your sins, it's just up to you to accept it. He became sin for you and He took your punishment so that you would not have to be punished. So, now when God looks at you, He doesn't actually see you and all your sins, He just sees His son, Jesus, who took the place for you and He is satisfied. If He did not forgive all sins, then that means His work on the cross was not good enough, so do not believe that.

The snow (Jesus' blood) does change us. When we accept Jesus' atonement for our sins, we become a new creation. As stated in 2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things have passed away; behold, new things have come." and in Galatians 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me." We have died to sin. How can sin live in us anymore? If Jesus now lives inside us, our hearts, actions and desires now begin to echo His heart and His actions and His desires. Romans 6:8 "Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. 10For the death that He died, He died to sin once and for all; but the live that He lives, He lives to God. 11Even so consider yourselves dead to sin, but alive in Christ Jesus"

It is not our growth that makes us into saints. It is Christ alone that has made us into saints. Nothing we can do, other than accept this from him, would bring us to that righteousness. Romans 5:17 "For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God's wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ." It is only HIS work that makes us holy, not ours. We do grow in Him and become like Him, but it is not what allows us to go to heaven. We go to heaven if we believe in Him. Nowhere in The Bible does it say that someone goes to Hell for sin. People only go to Hell for not accepting Jesus as their Saviour, sin or no sin.

This answer has nothing to do with Martin Luther, I do not know any of his teachings. It comes straight from Jesus, the Bible (hence the verses) and is Biblical. This video that my friend made really gets this point across very well. I hope you will watch it (link below). If you have any more questions about this or anything else, please contact me my blog is at the second link below, and also have some links on the right side to contact on facebook and messenger. I'd love to help anyone at all that needs anything.

Roman Catholic Answer

Martin Luther's idea was that we are like a pile of dung covered with snow: the dung being ourselves in our sins, and the snow being Christ. Thus Jesus doesn't really change us, the Father just looks at us and sees Jesus. This is contrary to the Scriptures and to the constant teaching of the Church. Jesus actually, and really, enables us to become a "new creation", through our baptism we actually become children of God. As nothing unclean can enter heaven, our baptism and our subsequent growth in God actually make us into saints.

Yes, every time you commit a sin, Jesus has arranged through the sacraments to forgive you and to give you the grace to overcome this and all sins.

1John chap 5 verse 17 All unrighteousness is sin and there is a sin not leading to death?

There are two types of sin mentioned. One does not lead to death and the other one does. The sin that does not lead to death is the one that is repented of and forgiven. The sin that leads to death is the one that is not repented of or forgiven. So the only sin that does not lead to death is the sin that is forgiven. 1John:5:17: All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.

What is the only sin in the bible that will not be forgiven?

The Bible speaks of a "sin unto death" in Romans 6:16 and 1 John 5:16. Many bible scholars believe that this refers to a sin which can not be forgiven. Many feel that this refers to a person who rejects God's plan of salvation and completely turns his back on God. Those who are not willing to repent are not forgiven for their sin.
