Yes. Jesus taught in the synagogue there on many occasions. Two of the many examples are those that are recorded in The Bible in the book of Mark 1: 21-29:- And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught. And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes. And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him. And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him. And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee. And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. And in the Book of John 6: 53-59 :- Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum. The synagogue in Capernaum is still there, although it is in ruins now, and may be visited as part of a Holy Land tour, as it was recently discovered, excavated and preserved as a monument.

What role does Capernaum play in the gospels?

Capernaum was the city in which Jesus and the disciples resided when not travelling. The miracle of healing on the centurion's servant, Peter's mother-in-law, and the paralytic occurred here as did the casting out of an unclean spirit. The association with Jesus was the reason the city was referred to as exalted. Within forty years of this prophecy of coming destruction, the city had been destroyed by the Romans.
