Mother Teresa was poor as a result of her accomplishments because she spent most/all of her money on the Missionaries of Charity. Roman Catholic Answer Mother Teresa was a religious under vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. She was materially poor - the Sisters are not permitted to own anything, not even the habit that they wear. But she was rich in God's love and in charity, she was rich in the things that count, the only things that you can take to the next world.
