People in the 'Old Testament' did not know Jesus by name, but a good part of the 'Old Testament' was prophetic, and written specifically to foretell the coming of Messiah(mashi'ach), who would be 'anointed' by God to undo the problems caused by Satan, Adam and Eve. ALL the Jewsknew about the coming Messiah, as there were prophecies throughout the Hebrew Scriptures:(Daniel 9:25, 26)(Genesis 49:10)(Micah 5:2+4)(Deuteronomy 18:18)(Isaiah 53:3,5,12+Psalm 16:10)(Zechariah 9:9; Daniel 7:13+14)(Psalm 132:11)(Isaiah 9:7)(Isaiah 11:1+10)(Isaiah 7:14)(Jeremiah 31:15)(Hosea 11:1)(Malachi 3:1)(Isaiah 53:4), (Psalm 69:9), (Isaiah 42:1-4), (Isaiah 53:1), (Zechariah 9:9), (Psalm 118:26), (Isaiah 28:16) ,(Isaiah 53:3), (Psalm 69:8), (Psalm 118:22+23)(Isaiah 8:14+15) and many many more... From the first prophecy in Genesis 3:15, to Abraham when the Messiah's lineage was clarified (Genesis 21:12/Genesis 17:19) to when the prophecies were believed by many to have been fulfilled in Jesus (Galatians 3:16)(Genesis 22:18/Acts 3:25).
