Jehovah's Witnesses are like anyone else. We enjoy giving and receiving gifts. With that in mind, JW's do not accept or give gifts that are associated with religious or nationalistic holidays, nor do we accept or give birthday gifts. Yes, Jehovah's witnesses can become Doctors. Yes. It is very touching that some want to give gifts to newborns. Among witnesses baby showers are common. If their was some reason a gift is rejected it would be because of a decision by the parents. If it was inappropriate or bothered their Bible trained conscience. The term is "informal" witnessing. Everyone knows Jehovah's Witnesses go formally knocking on people's doors hoping to be allowed to give a witness for their beliefs. That is the formal, or usual way of witnessing. But if you and one of Jehovah's Witnesses meet you on the street or in a store and you strike up a conversation, they can give a witness for their beliefs 'informally'.

Jehovah's Witnesses give or receive absolutely any type of present imaginable, as long as it does not in any way offend Jehovah God according to the standards set forth in the Bible. If you are referring to birthdays as "present day", than the answer would be that it is not scriptural, according to what the Jehovah's Witnesses believe to celebrate birthdays. And as a note we feel that we don't have to wait for any specific day to give or receive a present, any day is fine. We feel that this reflects the true spirit of giving. And as far as Christmas is viewed, in terms of presents, pretty much the same action may be applied (keeping in mind, of course, that according to Jehovah's Witnesses Christmas is not biblical).
