Taoism is believed to have originated in China around the 4th or 3rd century BCE, with foundational texts like the "Tao Te Ching" attributed to Laozi. While it is one of the oldest philosophical and religious traditions in China, other ancient religions, such as Hinduism and certain forms of animism, predate it. Therefore, while Taoism is ancient, it does not necessarily predate all other religions globally.
