Type your answer here... The Philippine Independent Church was started during the Philippine revolt against Spain in the 1890's. The Pilipinos who were studying and training as seminarians in the Philippines supported the revolt against Spain. When they were going to be ordained they chose and joined this newly formed church where they believe in the bible, in Jesus Christ, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit, they confess to God directly and their ministers/priest get married. The last two precepts made them protestants right away, similar to the episcopalians and the anglicans. The Pilipino seminarians who joined this new church were also Katipuneros. There were two catholic seminaries in the Philippines at that time , in Manila and in Vigan, Ilocos Sur. Katipuneros were the Pilipinos who fought the Spaniards. My grandfather was one of them, a Katipunero and an Aglipayan priest. They were called Aglipayan because the head of this group was Fr. Gregorio Aglipay, a former catholic priest. The Philippines through Dr. Jose Rizal asked the United States to help in the fight against Spain.The United States declared war against Spain. The rest is history.....the Spanish-American War. rcm.
