Gideon defeated the Midianites by using a small army of only 300 men and surprising them with torches and trumpets in the middle of the night. The noise and confusion caused the Midianites to turn on each other, leading to their defeat.
God promised to help Gideon defeat the Midianites by giving him strength and guidance in battle.
defeat the Midianites;wipe them out
In the bible it clearly states that Gideon defeated the midianites.
Gideon made an ephod as a way to honor and remember the victory that God had given him in battle against the Midianites.
Gideon
If my interpretation of Judges chapter 7 is correct; The 300 soldiers of Gideon were armed with empty pitchers, lamps and trumphets to do battle with the " Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude"
The Midianites
The Gideon ephod was a sacred object used for seeking guidance from God in the biblical story of Gideon. It symbolized Gideon's leadership and his reliance on divine direction in battle against the Midianites. The ephod played a key role in Gideon's victory, highlighting the importance of faith and obedience in achieving success.
Moses
In the biblical account of the battle in the book of Judges, there were about 135,000 Midianites.
The story of Gideon is God's choice to use the least in worldly stature to deliver the strength of His promises. Through faith and obedience Gideon is able to do what an entire unbelieving nation could not in defeating the enemy. Gideon glorifies God and in the process is glorified in his deeds. Gideon was a chosen by God as a 'judge' to deliver Israel during the period of the Judges as recorded in the book of that name. Specifically he attacked, with 300 men, a greatly superior force (numerically) of Midianites who had invaded the land of Israel. The account of Gideon is recorded in Judges chapters 6 through 8.
With only 300 soldiers Gideon and his men frightened the Midianite armies with trumpets and lights, the Midionites flee and are defeated by Israel. With 300 hundred trumpets blaring away as well as three hundred lights being waved about it was enough to frighten the Midianites, so much so that they were not sure who the enemy was and so fought among themselves. They were pursued by the Isaelites, their princes captured and killed and their army defeated.
