Keep in mind that at the time the bible was written, there was no global communication mechanism. There was no radio, television, telegraph, internet, telephone, no surveillance satellites or international news agencies. You could not log on to facebook or twitter to find out what other people were saying. People were able to observe their immediate neighborhood, and often received inaccurate rumors about what was going on elsewhere. No one, therefore, was in a position to know the full extent of a large flood. You might be in a flooded region, that was flooded as far as you could see. That would have been all you could tell.
Since the world continues to experience floods (the city of New Orleans was massively flooded just a few years ago, for example) and has had floods throughout human history, it is perfectly believable that there were also floods in ancient times. There is no believable evidence that there were any global floods, however. There would have been floods that some people would have thought to be global due to a lack of knowledge about what was actually going on in the world. Even the concept that the world was a globe, rather than a flat plain, was not known in the ancient world.
Another Answer:
As all Scripture is inspired by God who sees and knows everything, it is He who gave the account in Genesis. Reading Genesis 7:19-23, it clearly states, "And the waters prevailed exceedingly on the earth, and ALL the high hills under the WHOLE heaven were covered. The waters prevailed 15 cubits upward, and the mountains were covered..."
Jesus confirmed the Flood was global in scope in Matthew 24:38-39. As did the Apostle Peter teach of a universal flood, saying, "For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by wihich the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water" (2 Peter 3:5-6).
Professor Gleason Archer of Old Testament studies in the Encyclopedia of Bible Difficulties, 1982, p. 82 explained: "Now the most elementary knowledge of physical law leads to the observation that water seeks it own level...If the water level rose thirty thousand feet so as to emerge the peak of Mount Everest, the world's tallest mountain, it must have reached that level everywhere elso on earth...Therefore, we must conclude the Flood was indeed universal, or else that the biblical record was grievously in error."
But there are many fossils from Paleontology, especially the profusion of Pleistocene animals whose bones have been discovered in violently separate states in several ossiferous (bone-laden) fissures in Europe and North America. These varied animals (mammoths, bears, wolves, oxen, hyenas, rhinos, deer and many smaller animals). They were cemented together by the calcite and must have been deposited under water. Evidence of a brief and violent episode worldwide (various animals) as the Flood was.
yes they do to prove look in the bible you can read it to prove it
I think you mean son of Noah. Shem was one of Noah's 3 sons who lived on to populate the earth after the global flood of Genesis.
A:I'm sure some Christians think this because they realise that a truly global Flood, as described in the Bible, is scientifically impossible. The choice, also adopted by many Christians, is to accept that the story of Noah's Ark is not literally true.
ark saved Noah from the disaster of the flood.
Noah was 600 years old when the flood waters came.
After the flood Noah grew a vineyard.
According to the Bible, 'global warming' had nothing to do with the flood of Noah's day. God intentionally brought the flood to cleanse the earth (Genesis 6:11-13,17)(Genesis 7:23-8:3). The problem of "Global Warming" is a fairly recent development believed to be caused by man's use of a variety of chemical pollutants.
According to the bible in Genesis , at the time of the flood Noah was 600 years old.
Certainly the story of Noah's Flood is remarkably similar to the Flood story of Umapishtim in the much older Sumerian Epic of Gilgamesh. On that evidence, the Epic of Gilgamesh is the most likely source for the story of Noah's Flood.
If you're asking about the great Flood in Noah's time, it was God who preserved the lives of Noah and his family.
In the story Noah's Ark, God makes a covenant to Noah and the rest of the world which comes in the form of a rainbow. He promises that he will never send a global flood again. Hope I helped!
After the flood Noah was a farmer and he grew grapes in a vineyard.
