Satan was 'kicked' out of heaven because he rebelled against God. He wanted to be over God he wanted to be the 'top dog' of everything. He was rebelled in between the time of verse 1 and 2 of Geneses.

These are Zoroastrianism, ancient Hebrew religion (but not modern Judaism), Christianity and Islam. Angra Mainyu or Ahriman, is the first real Devil in world religion.

Isaiah 14:12-15 refers gloatingly to the defeated king of Babylon, metaphorically likened to the morning star whose rays are erased by the rising of the sun. Scholars have found traces of Canaanite mythology in the passage as well, but nothing indicates that Isaiah was even vaguely thinking of the Devil. Nevertheless, through misunderstanding, this passage entered Christian tradition as a tale of Satan's fall from heaven.

By the Apocalyptic period, Isaiah's fallen king or 'fallen star' was being linked with the fallen angel. In addition to 2 Enoch, other passages in the Qumran texts, in the Apocalyptic Life of Adam (14:16), and in the New Testament (Luke 10:18) indicate that the connection between the bright son of the morning and the Devil was being made at the time. Apocalyptic literature was beginning to perceive the Devil as the head of the host of evil angels. Christianity adopted that tradition for itself and made the Devil the prince of the fallen angels in their struggle against God

Another view of Satan's fall appears in the Books of Adam and Eve, where out of envy of humanity he refuses God's command to bow down to Adam. This is the understanding of Satan that has entered Islam.

It was Justin Martyr who established the connection between the Devil and the serpent of Eden, accepted by Christians forever after. After the fifth century, the fallen angels and demons were united in one and the same category. Satan, seen as a fallen angel himself, was only partly absorbed into that category.

While primitive Christianity was giving the Devil a significant role in its theology, Jewish thought was moving in the other direction. Rabbinic Judaism rejected the dualistic tendencies of the Apocalyptic writers and insisted upon the unity of the one, benevolent Lord.

Overall, we can say that to some, Satan did indeed get kicked out of heaven, but views about his role are so complex and varied that almost any explanation of his position would find support.

The second-century-BCE Book of Jubilees specified that nine parts of the angels fell because of lust for human females, while one part remained sinless and loyal to God. The leader of the fallen angels was Mastema, or Satan. Jubilees does not become part of the Hebrew Bible and this concept never became part of official Judaism, which held that Satan was a loyal assistant to God.

2 Enoch offers a different explantion, that the angels rebelled on account of pride. The key passage is : "And one from out the order of angels, having turned away with the order that was under him, conceived of an impossible thought, to place his throne higher than the clouds above the earth, that he might become equal in rank to any power. And I threw him out from the height with his angels, and he was flying in the air continuously above the bottomless." However, there is some doubt whether this passage is original or is of later Christian origin. there is even dispute whether 2 Enoch is of Jewish or Christian origin and, in any case, is not regarded as scripture by Jews or any Christian group.

Nevertheless, these two stories are the basis for most Christian views about the fall of Satan from heaven. Islam teaches that out of envy of humanity Satan refused God's command to bow down to Adam, a concept originally found in the Christian Books of Adam and Eve. Modern Judaism has no notion Satan's fall, and sees not one Satan but many, all loyal creations of God.
