Quran or the Muslims holy book is considered to be the only revelation of God which exists in the world in its original form with out any human interference. A true Muslim believes in each and every verse of the book and applies it in his day to day life. As God says in the Quran that he create man with commonsense , he should use his sense along with knowledge of Quran to take decisions.

Quran is a constitution to Muslim. He finds in Quran:

• morals of life
• guides and commands for worshiping God
• rules of marriage, inheritance, finance, ....
• tales about old nations to get advice and wisdom
• Christianity and Judaism religions and the deviations in their holy book texts
  

Muslims are encouraged to recite and listen to Quran frequently through their lives and to keep by heart as much as they can of the Quran.

Holy books are the instruction for communion with their diety or dieties. If one is not instructed on how to communicate with their God, how an they? Certainly some may stumble upon it, but that is not a very good follower development tool.

Also many holy books contain instruction on morality and leading a healthy life. The Bible teaches a lot on mental health and strength of will, as well as other things; where the Hindu texts (who's names escape me) focus on mind and body oneness. Just two examples.
