How do the Jehovah's Witnesses baptise?

The actual baptism is by complete water immersion as was the case with Jesus. By the time the baptismal candidate reaches the point of baptism, they have already studied The Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses, and have come to at least a basic knowledge of the scriptures. They will have already made a dedication in their heart to serve God, and will have likely expressed that to God in personal prayer, so the baptism ceremony itself is actually a public declarion of a dedication that they have already made to God. They will have also had several meetings with congregation elders who will have discussed with the baptismal candidate the seriousness of such a dedication, and will have made sure that they do have at least a basic knowledge of the Bible, by means of some Bible-based question and answer sessions. This process can take several weeks. At the convention or assembly where the person is baptised, there is a 30-45 minute baptismal talk given before the candidates are immersed to provide additional reminders about the seriouness of dedication to God and symbolizing it by water baptism, and reminding them that the baptism is not the end, but rather the beginning of their life of service to God. At the end of the talk, there are two questions asked of the candidates concerning whether they have made their dedication to God in their hearts, have rejected their former course of conduct and are now ready to put on the new Christlike personality, in which they are asked to respond louydly "Yes," to all those present, thus announcing publically that they have made this dedication, and then the baptism begins. The baptismal candidtates are escorted to changing rooms, where they put on modest bathing suits, and wait in line to be baptised in a baptismal pool that has been set up for all who wish to view.

Jehovah's Witnesses baptise by full submersion, but unlike biblical times, they have a long rigmarole of learning Jehovah's Witnesses teachings and proving their knowledge and understanding of these teachings by answering over 80 questions. This process can easily take a duration of 18-24 months of study, however, the early Christians where baptised instantly, as soon as they confess their faith in Jesus Christ, "Jesus is Lord". Another thing Jehovah's Witnesses need to do before being baptised is prove their repentance by attending meetings, getting involved in field-ministry (a.k.a. going from door to door), and of course not falling into "bad" sin.

At the time of one of Jehovah's Witnesses baptisms they not baptised in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (Matt 28:19), nor in the name of Jesus as seen throughout the book of Acts, but are rather presented with the following two questions:

1. On the basis of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, have you repented of your sins and dedicated yourself to Jehovah to do his will?
2. Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in association with God's spirit-directed organization?

Notice how the one who affirms the second question does so not baptising themselves in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, but rather in the name of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, the organization that is here being referred to.

Typically baptism is done at one of three annual conventions and could take place in a pool or large tub (depending on what is available). The only requirements would be that the body of water would allow for complete immersion.

Jehovah's Witnesses don't 'celebrate' baptisms. We 'perform' baptisms.

We do that only after many months of extensive Bible study. (We do not have 'revivals' where someone hears a good sermon, and they all come down off the bleachers and 'get saved'.)

After an extensive Bible study, the person meets with 6 elders in 3 sessions to see if they understand what they're doing; and if the even qualify. (We don't just baptize any Tom, Dick, or Harry off the street.)

Some are turned away from being baptized by us. But they can continue their studies and apply for baptism when they qualify.

We really don't celebrate anything except the Lord's Evening Meal once a year.

The word 'celebrate' seems to be over-used; and open for each persons interpretation.

Everyone 'celebrates' their own way. Some celebrate by getting drunk; others celebrate by telling children the lie that Santa brings gifts; others celebrate Satan at Halloween.

We 'celebrate' life in general, by living a life according to Jehovah's righteous requirements for human-kind. We might 'celebrate' by singing a song of praise to Jehovah at our social gatherings. We celebrate to Jehovah by having a Family Worship Night. We might celebrate by devoting 70 hours in the house-to-house ministry in a month. (So we celebrate the whole month.) We might celebrate by having people over for a meal. etc etc.
