The Pillars of Islam say that Muslims should fast during daylight hours during the holy month of Ramadan. The daily fast is broken after the sunset prayer "al-maghreb" with an "iftar", the Arabic word for "breakfast". Muslims are also told to strive to read the entire Qur'an during the month of Ramadan. Subsequently, much of a Muslim's free time during this month is spent in the mosque, reading and praying. The end of Ramadan is celebrated with a large community congregation on Eid al-Fitr. There are specific prayers, celebrations, etc that can vary by location.

Ramadan is a holy month to Muslims. They pray, fast from dawn till dusk, and they stop anything sinful. They focus on repenting to Allah, asking Allah (God) for forgiveness, and reading the Quran from book cover to book cover. At the end of this holy month they celebrate Eid-the first 3 days of the month of Shawal but the first day is always the one that has the biggest celebrations. The Muslims (everyone) goes to the mosque to pray and they should be taking the day off and celebrating, visiting families, and having fun.

In the end of the Ramadan period, they celebrate something called "Eid-ul-Fitr" often abbreviated to Eid, which is basically a holiday to celebrate the success and end of their fasting period; Some practices include gathering with family and eating together etc.
