How does God reveal truth?

Christians believe that God reveals the truth through The Bible. Some regard the Bible as inerrant - totally without error or contradiction. Others, more practically regard the Bible as infallible - containing possible errors or contradictions on matters of history and the natural world, but not on matters of faith.

Since the early Church Councils helped define much of the most important doctrines of Christianity, Christians would also believe that the Councils received those doctrines by divine revelation. Catholics also believe that God can reveal the truth through the saints and the person of the pope. Some believe that God will reveal the truth to anyone who prays.

Dear questioner

It is possible that you may be asking two questions, one is How does God reveal himself to us, or How does God reveal things to us? Let us try and answer both to be on the safe side shall we.

It has been on rare occasions that God may have revealed himself to man, though the bible does not give any account of this. There is however scripture found written on old scrolls where it says, Quote:- And God revealed himself unto Seth, and he rebelled not, but offered an acceptable sacrifice, like unto his brother Abel." Unquote.

To answer the second of your suggested question may I again quote from scripture, first Daniel 2:19 "Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision.". Also in Amos 3:7 "Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets." This is done by the Holy Spirit which will reveal to mankind all that God wished him to know.

Finally, if one believes that God and Jesus are two separate personages then He will use Christ and the Holy Spirit to make known His will.

IF INDEED the Bible is the ultimate truth at present & was inspired & is revealed for clear understanding as to doctrine, teachings etc.--Would it not be wise to pay close attention to its direction?

HERE ARE some powerful claims it makes:

1. (2 Timothy 3:16) "16 All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness,"

2. (2 Peter 1:20, 21) "20 For you know this first, that no prophecy of Scripture springs from any private interpretation. 21 For prophecy was at no time brought by man's will, but men spoke from God as they were moved by holy spirit."

3 (1 Corinthians 4:6) ". . ."Do not go beyond the things that are written," so that you may not be puffed up with pride, favoring one against the other. . ." Also it could be said that not to the lessen importance of what is clearly stated!

4. (Daniel 4:23, 24) ". . ." 24 This is the interpretation, O king; it is the decree of the Most High that must befall my lord the king. . ."

The Bible makes the claim that God used his "holy spirit" "dynamic energy" "active force" in many ways. Secularly as "the force" be with you as in "Star Wars"!

"A Very Accurate Scientific Book"

Hippocrates was a Greek physician of the fifth and fourth centuries B.C.E. who has become known as "the father of medicine," but much that the Bible says about diseases was written by Moses, about a thousand years before then. Yet, significantly, The AMA News published a letter from a doctor that said: "The best informed medical researchers now doing the best work are arriving at the conclusion that the Bible is a very accurate scientific book. . . . The facts of life, diagnosis, treatment, and preventive medicine as given in the Bible are far more advanced and reliable than the theories of Hippocrates, many still unproven, and some found to be grossly inaccurate."

Just as Jesus spoke only parables to the general public, the intent of which was to hide the meaning of what He was saying from their understanding; so is the Bible written as a parable... which the vast majority of those who read it also don't understand.

"Jesus always used stories and illustrations [parables] like these when speaking to the crowds. In fact, He never spoke to them without using such parables... Then, leaving the crowds outside, Jesus went into the [His] house. His disciples [who followed Him, privately, into His house] said, 'Please EXPLAIN the story [parable] of the weeds in the field.'" (Matt.13:34-36 NLT New Living Translation)

Therefore, just as Jesus' disciples had to go to Him "privately" for His explanation of the TRUE meanings of the parables; so too, do God's Faithful servants in the world need to go to Jesus, personally, intimately, and privately in silent prayer, to have the TRUTH of the Bible revealed [opened] to their hearts and minds.

It's Jesus Christ to whom God's servants must go to have the prophesied global events that shall take place in the last days of God's plan revealed to them. Because no one else has the Power and Understanding to do it:

"...There was writing on the inside and outside of the scroll [book], and it was sealed with SEVEN seals [completely sealed from everyone's understanding]... a strong angel... shouted with a loud voice: 'Who is Worthy to break the seals on this scroll and unroll it?' But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll and read it. Then I wept because on one could be found who was Worthy to open the scroll and read it.

"...'Stop weeping! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Heir to David's throne, has conquered. HE IS WORTHY to open the scroll and break its seven seals.'" (Rev.5:1-5 NLT)

We have to go to Jesus Christ to have the Truth of the Bible revealed to us. And we have to "believe" what He says -- which is something very few people in the world do. Millions of people "believe in HIM"... but "don't believe what He SAYS!"

"...many who heard Him say these things believed in Him... Jesus said to the people who believed in Him...

"...'some of you are trying to kill Me because My Message [the things I say] does not find a place in your hearts... I told you the Truth I heard from God, but you are trying to kill Me... Why can't you understand what I AM saying? It is because you are unable to do so!" (John 8:30-43 NLT)

And if you are able to understand and agree with what Jesus says, when you read it... it's because His Father in heaven personally and deliberately OPENED YOUR MIND AND HEART TO HIS TRUTH... and GAVE YOU TO HIS SON!

"'I have told these men about You. They were in the world, but then YOU GAVE THEM TO ME. Actually, THEY WERE ALWAYS YOURS, and you GAVE THEM TO ME; and THEY HAVE KEPT YOUR WORD." (John 17:6 NLT) [God's Word found a place in their hearts... because God MADE A PLACE there for it.]

That's how God reveals the Truth through the Bible. First of all, know that THE BIBLE IS TRUTH! And second, God has to be "personally, calling you out of the world for His own use and purpose" [sanctifying you] to KNOW and UNDERSTAND the Truth!

"SANCTIFY THEM THROUGH THY TRUTH: THY WORD IS TRUTH." (John 17:17 KJV)

""My Father has given Me authority over everything. No one really knows the Son except the Father, and no one really knows the Father except the Son and those TO WHOM THE SON CHOOSES TO REVEAL HIM.'" (Matt.11:27 NLT)

The Bible exists today for anyone to read: although many nations and governments ban it, and the relatively few people [globally speaking] who have it available to them don't bother. But the Bible remains a "parable" to the majority of the world, regardless... and will remain so until Christ returns.

"But the Word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken. Wherefore hear the Word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem [and all the nations in the world]. Because ye have said, 'We have made a covenant with death, and with hell [the grave] are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:' Therefore thus saith the LORD God, 'Behold, I lay in Zion for a Foundation a Stone, a Tried Stone, a Precious Corner Stone, a Sure Foundation...'" (Isa.28:13-16 KJV).

That "tried and tested Sure, Precious Cornerstone" is none other than Jesus Christ: the One to whom each of us must go, privately, to have the Truth of God's Word revealed to us.

"...Jesus asked them, 'Didn't you ever read this in the Scriptures? ''The Stone rejected by the builders has now BECOME THE CORNERSTONE. This is the LORD's doing, and it is marvelous to see.''' What I mean is that the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation that will produce the proper fruit. Anyone who stumbles over that Stone will be broken to pieces, and it will crush anyone on whom it falls.' When the leading priests and Pharisees heard Jesus, they realized He was pointing at them - that they were the farmers in His story [parable]." (Matt.21:42-45 NLT)

It's a humble reader finding a place in his heart for the Words of Jesus Christ, the Son of God; who understands HOW God reveals His Truth through the Bible.

Tradition says that God revealed the truth through the Bible by inspiring its authors to write. With the development of science, archaeology and historical study, it became evident that not everything in the Bible is literally true, so many Christians now say the Bible is literally true when it tells us spiritual things, but it is not always literally true in matters of natural science or history.
