Gautam Buddha(real name Siddhartha Gautama) was born in Lumbini,Nepal. He was prince of Shakya kingdom. As part of kingdom he was forbidden to go out. Later when he reached adulthood he left the palace to explore the world. By that time he was curious about life and everything. He then sat under a tree to meditate and self-knowledge the questions that arise on his mind. It is believed that a birth light glew on back of his head when he meditated. He taught people what he learnt from meditation and always taught people to follow the path of peace. This way Buddhism was born and his followers were called Buddhists. Buddhism spread throughout oriental Asia and some buddhists tend to medidate the way he did, e.g- through stages like not eating water,food for years to concentrate on meditation. For your question those who pass Gautam Buddha's levels and follow people the path of peace become self Buddha but there will be only one Original Buddha and he is Gautam Buddha.
