Zoroastrianism was Persia's official religion. The Avesta is the holy book of the adherents of Zarathustra, the Zoroastrians, the supreme god Ahuramazda. King Darius says: Ahuramazda has granted unto me this empire. Ahuramazda brought me help, until I gained this empire; by the grace of Ahuramazda do I hold this empire. The ancient Persian religion was called Zoroastrianism. The religion has adherents to this day. Currently, the main Persian religion is Islam.

The westward spread of Zoroastrianism may have been hindered by significant water boundaries such as the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf. These large bodies of water could have posed logistical challenges for travel and communication, limiting the movement of adherents and missionaries. Additionally, the Mediterranean Sea, while a potential route, could have introduced cultural and political barriers that made it difficult for Zoroastrianism to gain a foothold in regions to the west.

There are many similarities between Christianity and Zoroastrianism, but also some differences.Christians believe in God, whereas followers of Zoroastrianism believe in Ahura Mazda .In Christianity, Jesus has already come, born of a virgin. In Zoroastrianism, the Saoshyant is yet to come, and will be born of a virgin. Both will fight evil at the end times.Fire is sacred in Zoroastrianism, but not in Christianity. Orthodox followers of Zoroastrianism prefer neither to bury their dead in the sacred ground, nor cremate them.
