The Qur'an has 114 Suras (chapters) of various lengths. Traditionally the longest ones are printed first and the shortest towards the back of the Qur'an. Prior to the Uthmanic rescension the length varied. The Qur'an versions held by Muhammad's companions Ibn Massud, Ibn Abbas and Ubbay contained two short chapters known as Surah 'al-hafd' and Surah 'al-khal' that are not found in todays standard Qur'an edition. Ibn Massud's Qur'an was also missing Surah 1, 113 and 114. 'Asim al-Jahdari's Qur'an only contained 112 Surahs.
