How many original Book of Mormons exist?

500 of the original 5,000 printed copies are believed to exist. There is no way to know for sure. If you find one, it is very collectible.

• Only 28% of the original manuscript now survives. The majority of what remains of the original manuscript is now kept in the LDS Church Archives.
• The original printer's manuscript is now the earliest complete surviving copy of the Book of Mormon, being nearly 100% intact. it is owned by the Community of Christ.
• The original 1830 edition of the Book of Mormon was published by E.B. Grandin in Palmyra, New York. He originally published 5,000 copies. It is believed that only 500 survive today, but scanned images are available online, see related links below.

In 1970, Herald Heritage published a Facsimile of the 1830 edition which is still in print. In 2006, Stratford Press also published a facsimile of the 1830 editions. This facsimile is also still in print.

There are millions of copies of the Book of Mormon published to this day, but really there are no "Editions". It's been the same since the beginning of when it was written. The only difference between new Book of Mormons and old ones is the cross-referencing on the bottom of the page. Which makes it more accessible.

Additional changes since the 1830 printing and today's include: chapter headings, division into verses, adding 'Another Testament of Jesus Christ' to the title, and fixing some spelling and grammar errors. You can compare the 1830 edition with todays at the "Related Links" below.
