A:

Over the centuries since Roman times, millions of people people have been hurt or killed for their beliefs, including pagans, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and others. The main perpetrators have been Christians and Muslims.

Today, fewer people are hurt for their beliefs, but there are still occasional outbreaks of unofficial violence such as against Christians in Egypt, Hazaras in Afghanistan, or between Sunni ans Shi'ite Muslims. In some Muslim-majority countries, conversion from Islam to another religion or Atheism can result in death. The numbers killed, wounded or persecuted each year can not even be estimated.
