Kass (The Beginning of Wisdom: Reading Genesis) says that the Garden of Eden is a purely mythic place. The story originally had a moral purpose and was not intended to describe a blissful existence we once enjoyed but lost. Man's longing for immortality is a hidden theme.

No. The inspired Word of God says there were 2 special trees in the Garden. It describes the fruit of the tree of knowledge was good for food and pleasing to the eye...(Genesis 3:6). The type of eatable fruit was not named though popular human thought has said this to be either an apple or pomergranate.

As the Scripture does not elaborate more fully upon this fruit and the only eye witnesses to this event were the God Family and perhaps the spirit world, no human source can be emphatic on its non-existence.
