Is it a sin to be jealous?

I think being jealous is okay but i think so many people get wound up about being jealous of one person that they chose to not like the person because they are either jealous of what they have or jealous of who they are.

so yes it is okay to be jealous but no its is not okay to be cruel to someone over jealousy! :)

You cannot confuse envy or covet with jealousy. God Himself is referred to several times in the Old Testament as "jealous" and even is one of His names.

It is a human and also God-like emotion. Completely natural and normal and not a sin. Your reaction on it determines whether it is a good thing. If you choose (And God gave us that power) to do harm to yourself or others because of it then it is wrong.

Unfortunately God is like our parent. Do what He says and not what He does. His jealousy sparked entire wars and the slaughter of every man woman and child in many cases.

Just remember, what you choose to do is what kind of person you are. Jealousy is like drugs. You will be offered them at some point, whether you take them or not is your choice. But it doesnt change the fact that its still there. Its an emotion. And no one is free from it unless there is a medical reason, such as an imbalance of chemicals in your brain.

Generally speaking, yes. However, every negative emotion has contexts in which it can be used positively. An example for jealousy is given in the Talmud (Bava Batra 21a), "The jealousy of scholars (for each other's accomplishments) increases wisdom" (when they channel it to positive use).

jealous can be good and bad or you jealous to the point of hurting your love one that is the bad one or jealous cause you don't want them to cheat on you
