Is jeremiah's message still relative today?

Jeremiah is like St Augustine, who witnessed the Fall of Rome and attacks on Christendom, in that he can see things going to Hell all around him and see justice punishing the evils of men and yet be confident that there is a future and that Jeremiah 29:11 applies even in the midst of events that would make the ordinary person despair

Jeremiah 29:11

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Isaiah gives a similar lesson in the parable of the vineyard. Terrible things are foretold and they will not be averted yet the last word is that Israel IS the Lord's Vineyard.

3 "Now you dwellers in Jerusalem and people of Judah,

judge between me and my vineyard.

4 What more could have been done for my vineyard

than I have done for it?

When I looked for good grapes,

why did it yield only bad?

5 Now I will tell you

what I am going to do to my vineyard:

I will take away its hedge,

and it will be destroyed;

I will break down its wall,

and it will be trampled.

6 I will make it a wasteland,

neither pruned nor cultivated,

and briers and thorns will grow there.

I will command the clouds

not to rain on it."
