Peter Nero was born Bernard Nierow in Brooklyn in 1934. His father was a Ukrainian Jewish social worker, his mother a Sephardic Jewish high school French & Spanish teacher in New York City.

Peter’s Hebrew name ‘Baruch’ means “blessed”, and as an extraordinary, uniquely gifted musician/entertainer/conductor and warm-hearted gentleman, he was indeed blessed. There is no doubt that he left an indelible impression on everyone who had the privilege of hearing him, especially in person.
