So if you are a factual person then No, the character Jesus Christ never existed.

No. We have no real evidence that Jesus even existed as a historical person. People could be praying to someone who never existed or who, if he did exist, was only a wandering preacher. The first-century Jews who would have known him, and should have been impressed by his miracles and his teachings, seem to have made little effort to convert to Christianity. In his epistles, the Apostle Paul certainly worships Jesus, but seems to have been unaware that Jesus was a man who had lived in Palestine in the very recent past.

The first gospel to be written as an account of the life and mission of Jesus, Mark's Gospel, was not written until approximately 70 CE and could have been based on hearsay or unreliable sources.

John Ashton ('History and Theology in New Testament Studies', The Nature of New Testament Theology,edited by Rowland and Tuckett) says that although historians (and others) accept that Jesus probably existed, they continue to argue with one another whether Jesus was really a homespun Cynic philosopher, a social reformer or an eschatological preacher deeply sympathetic to the Pharasaic culture all around him. He says that not only Jesus' miracles but also the amazing religious experiences attributed to him in the Gospels, his baptism and transfiguration, are generally dismissed as legendary.
