The rules of Islam say you have to wear LOOSE clothes. There is no rule in Islam that prohibits Western clothes. So you might get non-American Muslim scholars saying that pants are not allowed, but the basic rules for women are: everything gets covered but the hands and the face. Until the day they start making jeans out of pigskin, cotton and denim are allowed for a Muslim man or woman. It is more a question of how the clothes fit, than what style they are. Sometimes we Muslims let our cultural bias into things. I don't really like the way Afghani women cover themselves in a tent with a cloth mesh for the face. The difference is, Western Muslims are not going about declaring the Burqa are haram (not permitted). The reverse applies as well. Some just like giving extremists in Afghanistan more of a hearing because they make the religion look bad. In Afghanistan they will kill or disfigure a woman just for wearing jeans. But Islam is big on ease. You don't have to "buy jeans in Turkey" or any such crazy thing. Modesty in the rule....not style.
