There is no "Law of the Eightfold Path" they are suggestions that one can incorporate into their lives to diminish pain in their lives. There's not a "Thoushalt not..." in them.The middle path is simply a statement that extremes in lifestyle are not the way to achieve learning of how to live life. The Buddha was once a fabulously wealthy prince and at another time a starving wandering mendicant. Neither provided the understanding he needed. The Middle Path of "enough" provided him with the grounding to find his answers.
The Buddha described the eight fold path also known as the middle way. It is also regarded as a golden mean between self-indulgence and self-mortifiction
The Noble Eightfold Path is the fourth of the Buddha's Four Noble Truths; the first element of the Noble Eightfold Path is, in turn, an understanding of the Four Noble Truths. It is also known as the Middle Path or Middle Way.
