Yes, the two tribes of the southern Kingdom (also known as the Kingdom of Judah) were Judah and Benjamin.
The word "Jew" derives from "Judah," one of the 12 Tribes of Israel. When the Jewish Kingdom split into two after the death of King Solomon, the tribes of Judah and Benjamin formed the Southern Kingdom, which was called Judea, and ruled from Jerusalem by descendants of King David. In 722 BCE the Assyrians conquered and dispersed the Northern Kingdom (hence the "Lost Tribes of Israel"), leaving Judea as the sole Jewish nation, and its people known as Judeans - or, eventually, Jews.
They were one of the twelve Israelite tribes. Benjamin was one of the twelve sons of Jacob.
During the period of the later Kingdom of Judah and the Exile, the Tribe of Benjamin merged into the much larger Tribe of Judah, but this was more of a cultural absorption than any proclamation or intent.
Jacob married two wives one named Leah and the other Rachel. Jacob had 12 sons. one of his sons was named benjamin. Benjamin's mother was rachel. The 12 sons of Jacob are the 12 tribes of Israel. Benjamin was the brother to Joseph, they had the same mother and father. We also Know that the two sons of Joseph, Ephraim and Manasseh make up for the daughter Dina and the Levites who could not become tribes.
Primarily Amos, a Judean prophet, was sent by God to the Northern Kingdom of Israel. At this time in the land the full nation of Israel had split into two groups. One group (nation) was Judah with Benjamin known as the Southern kingdom, and the other ten tribes (Reuben, Simeon, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Zebulun, Issachar, Asher, Ephraim, and Manasseh) composed the Northern Kingdom. This kingdom was grossly sinful, and mostly denying God. Amos was sent to them to pronounce the coming judgment on them.
Ten of the 12 tribes set up their own nation in the north. It was called the kingdom of Israel and it's capital was Samaria. In the south, the other two tribes founded the smaller kingdom of Judah.
The kingdom divided into two...one the Northern Kingdom and The other theSouthern Kingdom..one was led by Rehoboam(solomons son) the other by jeroboam. The Southern Kingdom, led by Rehoboam, consisted of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin. The Northern Kingdom, led by Jeroboam, consisted of the 10 other tribes. The Southern Kingdom was thenceforth referred to as Judah, and the Northern Kingdom was referred to as Israel.
Benjamin was the name of the youngest of Jacob's twelve sons, one of two born to his favored wife Rachel. Benjamin is also the name of one of the 12 tribes of Israel. The meaning of the name is "son of my right hand".
At one time all of Israel was one nation, but when King Solomon died his son, Rehoboam became king. At that time the people came before the new king and asked, " Your father made our yoke heavy; now therefore lighten the burdensome service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, and we will serve you". To make a long story short Rehoboam after three days of consulting with others gave them this answer; "My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke". So ten of the twelve tribes split from the kingdom and started their own kingdom known as the northern tribes of Israel, that left Judah and Benjamin in the south and they were the southern kingdom, known as Judah. Each kingdom had its own king (See I Kings 12:)
There are many people in the world named Benjamin Garnett. One Benjamin Garnett is a non-commissioned US army officer. There is also a Benjamin Garnett who is a structural engineer in the United Kingdom.
The Division A Punishment For Solomon's Apostasy The answer is found in 1 Kings 11:1-35. Because of Solomon's sin of idolatry, God gave the ten northern tribes to Jeroboam to rule and left Judah (and Benjamin... because they are closely related in the south) to Rehoboam, Solomon's son and the heir to the Davidic kingdom. Judah and Benjamin did not split off, the 10 northern tribes split off from the established kingdom in Jerusalem. Although the division of the Israelites was accomplished by means of the later foolishness of Rehoboam, it was actually decreed by God beforehand for the purpose of judgment on Solomon's sin: "And it came to pass at that time when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, that the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite found him in the way; and he had clad himself with a new garment; and they two were alone in the field:30And Ahijah caught the new garment that was on him, and rent it in twelve pieces:31 And he said to Jeroboam, Take thee ten pieces: for thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, Behold, I will rend the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give ten tribes to thee:32 (But he shall have one tribe for my servant David's sake, and for Jerusalem's sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel:)33 Because that they have forsaken me, and have worshipped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon, and have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in mine eyes, and to keep my statutes and my judgments, as did David his father.34 Howbeit I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand: but I will make him prince all the days of his life for David my servant's sake, whom I chose, because he kept my commandments and my statutes:35 But I will take the kingdom out of his son's hand, and will give it unto thee, even ten tribes.(1 Kings 11:29-35 KJV)The Kingdom's of Israel The United Kingdom of Israel lasted through the reigns of Saul, David and Solomon. After Solomon died, the kingdom split into two, the ten tribes (Reuben, Simeon, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, Ephraim and Manasseh and Benjamin of "Israel" with their capital up in Samaria, and the tribes of Benjamin (main tribe) and Judah forming the kingdom of "Judah" with their capital at Jerusalem. Based on 1 Kings 12:23, there were probably members of some of the other 10 tribes that remained in the south with Benjamin and Judah when the northern tribes split off.
Benjamin is only one of the twelve tribes. These are the twelve tribes: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun (the sons of Jacob and Leah); Dan and Naphtali (the sons of Jacob and Bilhah); Gad and Asher (the sons of Jacob and Zilpah); Joseph and Benjamin (the sons of Jacob and Rachel) (Gen. 29: 32-30: 24; 35:
