The fact that there are two miracles of feeding thousands has puzzled many scholars because they appear close together in the gospel account, yet there is no other miracle like these in the entire gospel. The two accounts are so similar as almost to be the same miracle, but the miracle of feeding 5000 has captured popular imagination and the miracle of feeding 4000 remains the poor cousin in biblical studies, in spite of their close similarities. Some have suggested that there was only one miracle, but that Mark mistakenly wrote two stories of the same event, with the author of Matthew's Gospel faithfully copying the information from Mark.
When we look at the context of the miracles, we begin to see an explanation for the two miracles. The stories of feeding the five thousand and the four thousand form part of a contiguous series of miracles and discourses with a total of ten references or allusions to food, and an underlying theme of the disciples not understanding (Mark 6:33-8:21):
A . John explains the coming of Jesus (Mark 1:1-8)
B .The baptism of Jesus (1:9)
C . The voice of God from heaven, "Thou art my beloved son" (1:11)

-- Where he was brought up
N . The people misunderstand Jesus and he can do no mighty work (6:2-6)

W' .Jesus dies and on the third day rises again (15:37, 16:6)
A' .The young man explains the departure of Jesus(16:6-8)
There need not have been two such similar miracles, but the author of Mark recognised that two dramatic miracles of feeding so many people, along with the related miracles and discourses, would provide an appropriate counterpoint for the equally dramatic Last Supper.
Jesus, being the divine son of God, always did things "in the family's style", so to speak. Therefore, when we read about the miracles of Jesus we see what God desires for all of humanity and the world. For example, Jesus fed the hungry because God desires that they be fed, Jesus healed the sick because God wants us to be well, and Jesus turned water into wine because God wants us to be happy. (Not drunk, but to enjoy life).

There was not a time, that Jesus fed 3000 people, the other time that He fed the multitude, apart from the 5000, was in Mark 8:1-9, when He fed 4000 people. I hope this answers your question.
