Jesus being baptized was a way for him to show obedience to God and set an example for others to follow. It was a way for him to fulfill all righteousness, meaning he was doing what was right and fulfilling God's plan for him.
Baptism takes away our sins and it was prefigured through water because water cleanses. Thus, we are being washed by water. In order to fulfill those prefigurations, Jesus Christ had Himself baptized by St. John the Baptist in the Jordan River. Answer Jesus was not baptized of John because he needed to be, he was baptized as an example of what was required of all of us. Though He was perfect He set an example for all of us to follow..
The Savior showed the importance of baptism by being baptized Himself. He lived a perfect life, but still was baptized to 'fulfill all righteousness.' That means that He was baptized because it is a required ordinance (John 3:5), and to be a perfect example. We must be baptized by His authority in order for the baptism to be valid in the eyes of God, and that authority has been restored to the earth by God in these days!
Jesus turned water into wine at the wedding before He was baptized.Answer:The New Testament does not record any miracles performed by Jesus before He was baptized. In John 1:33, 34, John the Baptist makes reference to the Spirit descending upon Jesus (which occurred when He was baptized), after which the account of Jesus' first miracle (turning water to wine at the wedding in Cana) is given in John 2.
Jesus Christ was baptized in order to do what His Father commanded Him. As the Savior said to John the Baptist, "Suffer it to be so now, for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness" (Matthew 3:15). But why was it necessary? The Savior Jesus Christ was perfect, and so had no need to be baptized for the remission of sins. But baptism is necessary in order to return into the presence of God, " He that beleiveth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned." (Mark 16:16). It shows us the perfect example, that all are needed to enter in at the gate of baptism and receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost. It also shows us a type and shadow of things that will come in the future. Paul identifies this in Romans. " Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." (Romans 6:3-4)And now, if the Lamb of God who is holy, has need to be baptized with water, how much more do we, being sinners have need to baptized, even in water? He has asked us to follow Him, but how can we follow Him unless we obey the Father? The Father has asked us to all be baptized by His authority. At the time of Jesus, John the Baptist was the only one with authority from God.
According to the account in the third chapter of Matthew's gospel, John the Baptist apparently wondered much the same thing. When Jesus came to him to be baptized, John said, "I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?"Jesus' reply was, "Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness."Considering the meaning of the original Greek words, Jesus' statement can be paraphrased as, "...it is eminently proper in order to accomplish all that is pleasing and acceptable to God."More simply put, Jesus was baptized because it was in keeping with God's will. The truth of this is confirmed by God's voice speaking from heaven, saying: "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."[Quotes from NKJV; Matthew 3 verses 14, 15and 17]Additonal Comment:As Jesus is mankind's perfect example we are to emulate Him with the help of God's Holy Spirit. He is mankind's pathfinder.
Jesus Christ walked down to the river Jordan to bathe in the holy water and relieve his sins, John knew of the importance of Jesus and baptised him in the waterAnswer:John recognized Jesus as the one who did not need to repent and be baptised. Rather, John said he needed to be baptised by Jesus (Jesus was sinless). But Jesus insisted that John should baptise Him in order to fulfill all righteousness.
No Jesus was not a temple priest. After His death, burial, and resurrection He became the High Priest of God for mankind when they believe on Him. Jesus' priesthood is after the order of Melchizedek.
Jesus fulfilled that prophecy by going to the cross on Calvary and dying there for your and my sin, but in order to be saved we have to believe and ask Jesus to forgive us our sins and trespasses.
This describes John the Baptist, who baptized Jesus and preached, "Repent for the kingdom of heaven is near" before Jesus began to minister in public in order to prepare people for Jesus' message.
Jesus clearly said that in order to enter the kingdom of heaven, a person must be re-born. Being baptized is being re-born in spirit.
Some Bible verses about being baptized include: Matthew 28:19-20 - "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." Acts 2:38 - "And Peter said to them, 'Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.'" Romans 6:3-4 - "Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life."
our righteousness because we need to learn more about the bible.Answer:Matthew 5:20 - For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. [NKJV]
