The Lhasa Apso was originally an indoor sentinel (guard) which alerted Buddhist Monks about intruders into their Tibetan monastery.
Lhasa Apsos were originally bred in Tibet as watchdogs for monasteries and palaces. They were also used as companions by Tibetan monks and nobility. Today, they mostly serve as loyal and loving family pets.
Lhasa is considered royalty their, therefore Lhasa is a common term to describe things important to Tibetan culture.
The term "Lhasa" in Lhasa Apso refers to the capital city of Tibet, known as Lhasa. In Tibet, the Lhasa Apso is called "Seng Kye," which means bark lion sentinel dog in Tibetan. This breed was traditionally bred to serve as a sentinel and companion in Tibetan monasteries and homes.

The monks of Tibet are called Tibetan monks in English. In Tibetan they may be called choden 'religious' or chodak 'Dharma spreader.'

There is no known special name for a group of monks. A monk is a singular term and when multiple monks are present an "s" is added to make the word monk plural which is monks.
Benedictine monks were called black monks because of the color of their traditional black robes or habits. The term "black monks" was used to distinguish them from the Cistercian monks, who wore white robes and were known as the "white monks."
