The mount hermon conference
Dwight L. Moody played a key role in encouraging America's missionary outreach. In 1886, Moody sponsored a Christian conference at mount hermon, near northfield Massachusetts. Of the 250 American college students who attended the Conference, 100 of them dedicated themselves to foreign mission work. During the following school year, this "Mount Hermon Hundred " encouraged others to offer themselves for the foreign mission field; 2,000 students from various American colleges and universities responded to the call. Out of this came the *student* *volunteer* *movement*, who's watchword was to "evangelize the world in this generation"
